Major League Baseball games played Friday, August 24, 2007: Due to a day-night doubleheader between the Boston Red Sox at the Chicago White Sox, Friday featured an expanded slate of 16 games. And those 16 games produced two ejections.

In Phoenix, where the Arizona Diamondbacks hosted the Chicago Cubs, home plate umpire Eric Cooper ejected Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin in the top of the 7th inning for arguing about Cooper's strike zone during a visit to the mound to change pitchers. The Cubs won 6-2. You can access the box score at this link, while wraps from MLB.com are here and here. And overnight in Detroit, where a four-hour rain delay plus extra innings resulted in a game that did not end until 3:30 a.m. this morning, the Tigers hosted the New York Yankees. After recording the third out in the top of the 9th inning on three called strikes, Yankees catcher Jorge Posada complained about the strike zone of home plate umpire Bob Davidson and was ejected by Davidson. MLB.com's Gameday 2007 indicates that Posada had a valid complaint, as all three called strikes were outside and off the plate. The Tigers won 9-6 in 11 innings. Credit Eric Cooper with an ejection, his first of the season; credit Bob Davidson with an ejection, his fifth of the season; and adjust your Umpire Fantasy League standings accordingly.
