Major League Baseball games played Sunday, August 19, 2007: A complete slate of 15 games scheduled to be played on Sunday produced in 14 games played to completion and one rainout of the National League contest that was to be played in Chicago last night. Moreover, those 14 games produced a single ejection.
In Miami, where the Florida Marlins were hosting the San Francisco Giants, second base umpire Tim McClelland ejected Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez in between the bottom of the 4th inning and the top of the 5th inning after Gonzalez went onto the field to end an argument that had arisen between McClelland and Marlins right fielder Cody Ross, who had just learned from McClelland that he was receiving an equipment fine for the manner in which he reacted to striking out looking to record the final out in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Giants won the game 6-5. You can access the box score at this link, while wraps from MLB.com are here and here. Additional coverage is available from The Miami Herald; The South Florida Sun-Sentinel; The San Francisco Chronicle; and The Associated Press. You can view a related photo at this link.
Credit Tim McClelland with an ejection -- his fourth of the season -- and and adjust your Umpire Fantasy League standings accordingly.
