Major League Baseball games played Saturday, August 18, 2007: A complete slate of 15 games played on Saturday produced a single ejection.
In Oakland, where the Athletics hosted the Kansas City Royals, second base umpire Mike Muchlinski -- a 2007 minor league call-up umpire -- ejected A's manager Bob Geren for excessively arguing a play on which Muchlinski ruled defensive obstruction on the A's second baseman on a play on which Geren was arguing that the Royals baserunner had interfered in the second baseman's attempt to field a ground ball. The Royals won the game 7-3. You can access the box score at this link, while wraps from MLB.com are here and here. Additional coverage is available from The Oakland Tribune; The San Francisco Chronicle; The Kansas City Star; and The Associated Press.
Credit Mike Muchlinski with an ejection -- his first of the season -- and adjust your Umpire Fantasy League standings accordingly.
