Major League Baseball games played Thursday, May 22, 2008: A partial slate of eleven games played Thursday produced three ejections.

In the Bronx, where the New York Yankees hosted the Baltimore Orioles, home plate umpire Chris Guccione (a 2008 minor league call-up umpire) ejected Yankees manager Joe Girardi in the bottom of the 9th inning for arguing over a called strike three on a caught foul tip, which represented the second out of the half-inning. The game was tied 1-1 at the time of the ejection, but the Yankees ended up winning 2-1 on a walk-off single two batters later. And in San Diego, where the Padres hosted the Cincinnati Reds, home plate umpire Eric Cooper ejected both Reds third baseman Edwin Encarnacion and Reds manager Dusty Baker in the middle of the 7th inning for arguing balls and strikes. The Reds were losing 5-2 at the time of the ejections and ended up losing 8-2. You can access the box score at this link, while wraps from MLB.com are here and here.
