Credit umpire Phil Cuzzi with one more ejection, from July 18, 2007: Last Wednesday evening, the Detroit Tigers were visiting the Minnesota Twins. Apparently Cuzzi ejected Tigers manager Jim Leyland in the bottom of the 9th inning, after the first Twins batter reached base, because Leyland was arguing from the dugout about Cuzzi's failure to call a strike on that batter's check swing earlier in the at-bat. I had been watching the game on ESPN, but the announcers did not state that Leyland had been ejected, nor was the ejection shown on camera. All that was shown was Leyland's argument on the field, apparently after he had already been ejected off-camera. In any event, these Detroit Tigers notes from MLB.com contain Leyland's admission that he had been ejected by umpire Cuzzi in the 9th inning of the July 18, 2008 game (even though the ejection is not shown on the official MLB box score), so I am crediting Cuzzi with the ejection.

With this ejection, umpire Phil Cuzzi has a total of five on the season.
