Major League Baseball games played Monday, July 30, 2007: A partial slate of 5 games played Monday produced a single ejection.
In St. Petersburg, Florida, where the Tampa Bay Devil Rays were hosting the Toronto Blue Jays, third base umpire Tim Welke ejected Blue Jays manager John Gibbons for arguing from the dugout a check-swing that Welke called a ball while the first batter in the bottom of the 8th inning was at bat. The Devil Rays won the game 5-4 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. You can access the box score at this link, while wraps from MLB.com are available here and here. Additional coverage is available from The Toronto Star; The St. Petersburg Times; The Tampa Tribune; and The Associated Press. In addition, you can view related photos here and here.
Credit third base umpire Tim Welke with one ejection -- his first of the season -- and adjust your Umpire Fantasy League standings accordingly.
