Major League Baseball games played Sunday, September 2, 2007: A complete slate of 15 games played Sunday produced two ejections.
In Atlanta, where the Braves hosted the New York Mets, first base umpire Andy Fletcher ejected Mets left fielder Moises Alou in the top of the 8th inning for arguing a called third strike on a check-swing. After Alou was ejected by Fletcher, he argued the same call with home plate umpire Eric Cooper, who also ejected Alou. However, because a played can only be ejected once from a baseball game, only Fletcher is credited with the ejection because he ejected Alou before Cooper did. The Mets held on to win the game 3-2. And in Chicago, where the Cubs hosted the Houston Astros, home plate umpire Tony Randazzo ejected Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez after recording the final out in the bottom of the 6th inning for arguing a called strike three that painted the black on the outside corner of the plate. The Cubs won 6-5. You can access the box score at this link, while wraps from MLB.com are here and here. Additional coverage is available from The Chicago Tribune; The Chicago Sun-Times; The Houston Chronicle; and The Associated Press.
Credit umpire Andy Fletcher with an ejection, his first of the season; credit umpire Tony Randazzo with an ejection, his third of the season; and adjust your Umpire Fantasy League standings accordingly.
