Major League Baseball games played Thursday, August 30, 2007: A partial slate of 10 games played Thursday produced three ejections.
In the Bronx, where the New York Yankees hosted the Boston Red Sox, second base umpire Derryl Cousins ejected Red Sox manager Terry Francona in the top of the 7th inning for arguing an out called because the runner advancing from second base to third base went out of the base path to avoid the tag on a ground ball to the Yankees third baseman. Next, in the top of the 9th inning, home plate umpire Angel Hernandez ejected Yankees relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain after Chamberlain had delivered two high and very inside fastballs in succession to the same Red Sox batter. The Yankees won the game 5-0. You can access the box score at this link, while wraps from MLB.com are here and here.
